Packaging Our Journey Towards More Sustainable Packaging
JAN 2016: REDUCE OVERALL PACKAGING MATERIAL WEIGHT BY ABOUT 38%
Weight reduction is the most impactful way to make packaging more sustainable because it has multiple impacts across the supply chain (1), reducing energy, resource usage, and greenhouse gas emissions as follows:
RE-SEALABLE BAGS ALSO HAVE BENEFITS LIKE BETTER FREEZER AND FOOD STORAGE MANAGEMENT
TO HELP REDUCE FOOD WASTE
Flexible bag takes up less space.
New resealable closure helps fight freezer burn.
Bag gets smaller with less product.
FEWER RAW MATERIALS NEEDED
LESS IMPACT DURING MANUFACTURING
LESS WEIGHT TO TRANSPORT FOR DISTRIBUTION
LESS PACKAGING MASS HEADED TO LANDFILL BECAUSE UNFORTUNATELY ONLY 34% OF AMERICANS RECYCLE(2)

FUTURE: Continuously work towards more sustainable packaging through partnering with industry groups and packaging manufacturers.
As we look to the future, MorningStar Farms® is committed to using even more sustainable packaging. Currently, resealable and recyclable bags that are safe for food do not exist in the frozen foods category. But we are partnering with organizations like the Sustainable Packaging Coalition to stay on the cutting edge of discovery for more Earth-friendly and consumer-preferred packaging solutions like this. We are also exploring options like packaging made from recycled content and/or renewable resources.
Let's take this journey towards more sustainable packaging together.
