DELICIOUS THAT DOES MORE

DELICIOUS THAT
DOES MORE

We make delicious veggie foods with tasty plant-based proteins for every part of your day. These are the kinds of foods that do more than make you feel good - they make for a healthier planet. And remember, no matter how you veg, it’s Just What the World Ordered.

GOOD FOR YOU

Did you know eating tasty, veggie-based meals gives your body a boost since they tend to be lower in cholesterol and saturated fats than a lot of meat-based meals?

American Dietetic Association (2009) Position of the American Dietetic Association: vegetarian diets.

Soy has the highest protein content of any vegetable with lentils coming in close at second place.

US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Nutrient Data Laboratory. (2014) USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 27.

Plant-based diets can give you proteins to support an active lifestyle.

GOOD FOR THE EARTH

Choose a veggie meal over one with meat just once a week for a year and you could save enough water for more than 200 showers.

A Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of Plant-Based Foods and Meat Foods Summary (Quantis & MorningStar Farms®, 2016)

Agricultural production accounts for a staggering 70% of the global freshwater consumption, 38% of the total land use, and 14% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

UNEP (2010) Assessing the Environmental Impacts of Consumption and Production: Priority Products and Materials [Online] Available here.

Producing meat can generate more greenhouse gas emissions than everyday road transportation.

FAO (2013) Tackling Climate Change through Livestock: A global assessment of emissions and mitigation opportunities. Available here.

In 2015, MorningStar Farms® worked with Quantis, leaders in life cycle assessment consulting, to conduct a study comparing the environmental impact of veggie meals, meat-containing meals, and some of our own products across water use, greenhouse gas emission and land use. With that data we created the Veg Effect Calculator so that everyone can see the good their veggie meal can create.

If you ate this way for 1 year, you could make this amazingly Earth-friendly environmental impact*:

3.6K
gallons of water saved

184
car miles of greenhouse gas emissions saved

1.0K
SQUARE FEET OF LAND saved

That’s enough water for 201 average showers. Lather, veg, repeat.
Oh dear. If that many people chose veggies that often, it would literally change agriculture as we know it, so we can’t calculate what the impact would be. But hey, way to be optimistic!

GO MEATLESS ON MONDAYS
WITH MORNINGSTAR FARMS

WHY MONDAYS? Monday is the day more people get back to better eating than any other day. And most people find that when their good intentions start on Mondays, they last longer through the week.
